WHO CHANGED THE SABBATH TO SUNDAY?

There is no doubt that Christ, his disciples, and Christians in the first century They celebrated on Saturday, the seventh day Sabbath. However, today most of the Christian The religious world celebrates Sunday, first day of the week, naming it Shabbat. Who made this change and like did it happen?

No serious student of Scripture can deny that God instituted the Sabbath at the time of creation and appointed the seventh day to be holy. "And on the seventh day God finished His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. And God blessed that seventh day and sanctified it, because in it he rested from all his work, which God created and made "( Genesis 2: 2-3 ). It was later codified as the Fourth Commandment ( Exodus 20: 8-11 ).

Let me point out at the outset that I am aware of a large deviation among the Sabbath keepers themselves. But this is the spirit of religiosity that is everywhere.

God's Word clearly states that Sabbath observance is a special sign or "sign" between God and His people. Nor is there any uncertainty that Christ, His disciples, and the Christians of the first century did not observe the Sabbath commandment of the seventh day-the day we now call "Saturday" ( Mark 2 , 28, Luke 4:16 ).

Is there any biblical support for Sunday observance?

There is absolutely no no New Testament text stating that God, Jesus or the apostles have changed Saturday to Sunday - not a text, not a word, not even a hint or suggestion.

If so it was, these chapters and verses would have been loudly heralded by opponents of the Sabbath. If Paul or any other apostle had taught a change from Sabbath to Sunday, the first day of the week, an absolute storm of protest would have arisen from conservative Jewish Christians. The Pharisees and scribes would have insisted that Paul or any other person suggesting such a thing be stoned to death for the sin of breaking Saturday. This would be a much bigger problem than the controversy over circumcision!

The self-righteous Pharisees falsely accused Christ of breaking the Sabbath because He violated man's added rules and traditions, which they placed on the Sabbath ( Mark 2:24 ). The complete absence of such controversy over the change of the day of worship is one of the best proofs that the apostles and other Christians in the New Testament no They changed the day. On the contrary, we have a record of the many Sabbaths that Paul and his traveling companions kept long after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Read about them in your Bible in Acts 13:14 , 27 , 42-44 ; 15:21 ; 16:13 ; 17: 2 ; and18: 4 . Acts 13: 42-44 has special significance because Paul and Barnabas, speaking in the Jewish synagogue, were invited to speak again in next Sabbath. This would be a great opportunity for Paul to tell people to meet with him next day, Instead of waiting all week for the Sabbath. But "next shabbat almost the whole city [Jews and Gentiles alike] gathered to hear the word of the Lord."

Today, however, most of the Christian denominational world celebrates Sunday, the first day of the week, by calling it Sabbath. The question arises, who changed the Sabbath to Sunday and like did it come to this? The answer may amaze you!

Biblical Testimony

The New Testament makes it clear that we are to continue to keep the commandments (Matt. 5: 17-18, 19:17, 28:20) - all of them. Where, then, do men get the "authority" to switch The Fourth Commandment , replacing Sunday with the original Sabbath of Christ and the apostles?

The Bible prophesied many centuries earlier that a time would come when people would think about changing times and laws ( Daniel 7:25 ). Many Bible prophecies are "dual" in nature - that is, they have a type and a symbol, an earlier and a later realization. Although we are talking specifically about the soon-to-be antichrist, we can see a type of predecessor documented in history and I have agreed with this view for several years. Such a type is Antiochus, for example.

The dilution of the Sabbath in the first 300 years

Christians during the apostolic era, from about 35 to 100 AD, kept the Sabbath on the appointed seventh day of the week. During the first 300 years of Christian history, when Roman emperors considered themselves gods, Christianity became an "illicit religion" and God's people were scattered abroad ( Acts 8: 1).

Judaism was considered "legitimate" at the time, as long as they obeyed Roman laws. Thus, during the apostolic era, Christians found it convenient for the Roman authorities to consider them Jews, which gave them legitimacy with the Roman government. But when the Jews rebelled against Rome, the Romans abandoned peace, destroying Jerusalem in 70 Ne and again in 135 AD. Of course, the Roman government's suppression of the Jews made it increasingly uncomfortable for Christians to be considered Jews. At the time, Sunday was the day of the Roman empire, whose religion was mitraism, a form of sun worship. Because Sabbath observance is visible to others, some Christians in the early second century sought to distance themselves from Judaism by observing another day, thus "blending in" with the society around them.

During the Empire-wide Christian persecution under Nero, Maximinus, Diocletian and Galerius, Sabbath-keeping Christians were hunted down, tortured and, for sport, often used for entertainment in the Colosseum.

Constantine Made Sunday A day of civic rest

When Emperor Constantine I - a pagan sun worshipper - came to power in AD 313, he legalized Christianity and introduced FIRST SUNDAY LAW. His infamous Sunday Execution Act of March 7, AD 321, reads as follows: "On the venerable Day of the Sun let the magistrates and the people residing in the cities rest, and all workshops be closed." ( Codex Justinianus 3.12.3, trans Philip Schaff, History of the Christian Church , 5th ed. (New York, 1902), 3: 380, note 1.)

Sunday law was officially confirmed by the Roman papacy. Council of Laodicea in AD 364 decreed what harlot pastors say today: "Christians will not Judaize and shall be idle on Saturday, but shall work that day; but the Lord's day they shall especially honor, and as Christians, if possible, they shall do no work on that day. However, if they are found to be Judaizing, they will be cut off from Christ "(Strand, op. Cit, To quote Charles J. Hefele, A History of the Councils of the Church, 2 [Edinburgh, 1876] 316). are we familiar with such texts?

Cardinal Gibbons, in: Faith of Our Fathers , 92nd edition, p. 89, freely admits: "You can read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you won't find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. Scripture enforces the religious observance of Saturday, a day that we, the Catholic Church, never sanctify."

Again, "the Catholic Church ... by virtue of her divine mission changed the day from Saturday to Sunday" ( The Catholic Mirror , official publication of James Cardinal Gibbons, September 23, 1893).

"Protestants do not realize that by observing Sunday they are accepting the authority of the Church's spokesman, the Pope" ( Our Sunday Visitor , February 5, 1950).

"Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change [Saturday Sabbath to Sunday] was an act and is a sign of her ecclesiastical authority in religious things" (HF Thomas Chancellor Cardinal Gibbons).

"Sunday is our sign of power ... The Church is above the Bible, and this transfer from the Sabbath is proof of this fact" (Catholic Record of London, Ontario September 1, 1923).

What a shocking admission!

Shocking, but Christians are still blind to it...

They can talk for hours about breaking the 2nd commandment, but they hold these facts in contempt.

Prophecy Come to Pass!

At this point we need to pay attention to an amazing prophecy. Daniel 07:25 prophesied:

"And he shall speak bold words against the Most High, he shall torment the Saints of the Most High, he shall intend to change the times and the Law; and they shall be delivered into his power until a time and two times and half a time."

Quoting Daniel 7:25 , Adam Clarke Bible Commentary he says:

” He terminate great words against the Most High ] Literally, Sermones quasi Deus loquetur; He will speak as if he were God." Thus Jerome quotes from Symmachus . To no one does this apply as well or as well as to the popes of Rome. They adopted infallibility which belongs to God alone. They confess to forgive sins that can only be forgiven by God. They confess that they open and close heaven, which belongs to God alone. They confess that they are superior to all the kings of the earth, who belong to and depend on God alone. And they go forth beyond God, pretending to reject whole nations from swearing allegiance to their kings, when such kings do not please them! And they are against God when they give indulgence for sin. This is the worst of all blasphemies!

And they will destroy the saints ] By wars, crusades, massacres, inquisitions, and persecutions of every kind. In this way, did they not do so against all those who protested against their innovation and refused to surrender idolatrous worship? Witness the exterminating crusades published against Waldenom i Albigensom . See how John Huss i Jerome z Prague. Be a witness fires Smithfield in England! Be a witness God and man against this bloody, persecuted, ruthless and unclean Church!

And will think to change times and laws ] Appointing fasts and feasts; canonizing persons whom he calls saints; granting indulgences and pardons for sins; establishing new forms of worship altogether unknown to the Christian Church; new articles of faith; new rules of practice; and reversing, at pleasure, the laws of both God and man. "Dodd" (Emphasis his: CommentClarke's bible , Vol. IV, p. 594).

Who changed the Sabbath to Sunday?

Your Bible says: "But in vain [uselessly] they worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandment of men". ( Matthew 15: 9 , Mark 7: 7 ).

He continues, "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to that word [Bible], it is because there is no light in them" ( Isaiah 8:20 ).

"Just prove to me from the Bible that I am obligated to keep Sunday holy. There is no such law in the Bible. It is only the law of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church says that by my divine power I abolish the Sabbath day and command you to keep the first day of the week holy. And behold! The whole civilized world bows in respectful obedience to the commandment of the Holy Catholic Church "(Thomas Enright, CSSR, President, Redemptorist College [Catholic], Kansas City, MO, February 18, 1884). All Evangelical Alliance and other derivative religious companies.

"The pope has the power to change times, to repeal laws, and to dispense with all things, even the commandments of Christ. The pope has the authority and he often used to abandon the command of Christ "( Decretal, de Tranlatic Episcop ).

It is a matter of Biblical and secular history that God has never changed His holy Sabbath or transferred its solemnity to Sunday. Whoever made ?

Rome, in agreement with the Roman Catholic Church, has changed Saturday to Sunday!

What in you do you believe? Whom will you follow? The God of your Bible-or the traditions of men?

The choice, dear reader, is yours.

  1. Exactly! 😉
I wish a joyful and blessed upcoming Sabbath to all brothers and sisters in Christ who observe this day not to save themselves, but out of love for the Creator, Amen 🙂

  2. Here it is worth mentioning, for those researching the topic, a film which basically contains everything that is in this article and still develops the topic, and is also good in terms of content. Namely, "The Church in the Desert" from the channel Jan W. Kliff I recommend watching

    1. o you see it is worth reminding as there are new readers

  3. Have a blessed Sabbath! ❤️

  4. Constantine messed with this Sunday, I see....

  5. Acts 20:7 "And on the first day after the sabbath, when we were gathered together to break bread...".The early Christians met on Sunday. Of course there is no substitution, the Sabbath continues on Saturday. And here the Word of God applies: "Let no man therefore make any judgment of you concerning food or drink, or concerning feasts or new moons or Sabbaths. These are but shadows of things to come, but the reality belongs to Christ. (Paul to the Colossians 2:16-17).

    1. The problem here is the signing of the feast of Rome, the lack of separation by the Sabbath.
I think few people are aware of this.....

    2. Interlinear translation: On the first (one) of the Sabbaths when the disciples were gathered to break bread Paul spoke (to) them intending to leave the next day dragged out the word until midnight. (Acts 20:7)

Therefore, let no one judge you by food or by drink or on the (in)feast or new moon or Sabbaths
      (Colossians 2:16)

      1. So then in John 20:1 what does it say? That Jesus was resurrected on the first (one) of the Sabbaths?

        1. It says that when they went out on the morning after the Sabbath, Jesus was gone, not that he rose from the dead

          1. Martin, I was unclear. My question was in reference to what Robert wrote about the Acts 20:7 interlineation.
In John 20:1 we have exactly the same phrase μια των σαββατων, and it probably means "on the first day of the week," for we read further that in the morning Mary Magdalene came to the tomb. And it seemed to me that Robert by what he wrote implied that Acts 20:7 was about the Sabbath, when the disciples met for the breaking of bread. I will point out, by the way, that for me Sunday is no holiday 😉 .

            1. The author may not have remembered exactly and therefore wrote that on one of the Sabbaths, but indeed it could also mean the first day of the week: Sabbath, week; Hebrew "שַׁבָּת" [Shabbat] - rest; The seventh day of the week; Begins with sunset on Friday and ends with sunset on Saturday; The Sabbath was also referred to as the entire week, or the interval between successive Sabbaths.

It is also interesting in Matthew 28:1 when Mary Magdalene and Mary came to the tomb:
And in the evening(after) the Sabbaths....

              http://biblia.oblubienica.eu/interlinearny/index/book/1/chapter/28/verse/1/param/1/version/TR

  6. Yeshua rose from the dead at the end of the Sabbath about 6 p.m. See Matthew 28:1 - only old translations because the new ones live lies and push as dictated by church censors that it was Sunday. And in John 20:1 is not described how he rose from the dead only that Miriam of Magdala came to the tomb and saw the empty tomb - only so much is written there. There is no description of the moment of resurrection, moreover the gospel of Luke and Mark writes the same. Only Matthias describes the moment of resurrection.

  7. You know what is really problematic about celebrating the Sabbath? Peer pressure and not having any work after Saturday 🙁 More so where I live a small community but very religious with a lot of emphasis on Sunday. I'm worried precisely because of the fact that I'm not able to not work on Saturdays, but my current situation doesn't allow me to :'(
At the same time, I feel bad because I know I am breaking God's law

    1. Of course it is easier for some and harder for others. You have to grow to this decision or ask for God's strength.
But in such an environment the greater Glory of God would be.
Don't worry. God will guide you

  8. I am convinced that Catholicism was created to destroy the Slavs. When I asked the priest why they break the 3rd commandment and the Sabbath, he said that Jesus was resurrected on Sunday. Mithras worshippers also worshipped Sunday.
