Well, the situation of Poland during the Reformation and Counter-Reformation resembled exactly the same state mentioned in the above quotation. It is a stage of human transformation. The Reformation was such. However, the position of the Catholic Church was so strong that the Counter-Reformation with its "ghosts" acted in a very effective way.
