Three Central Asian countries - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan - experienced power outages simultaneously.
Administration of the city of Almaty (Kazakhstan), home to over two million people, stated that "the interruption occurred through the KEGOC (Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company) line.
Power outages occurred in Shymkent, Taraz, Turkestan region, Kazakhstan, and in Kyrgyzstan's capital Bishkek, in the Kyrgyz city of Osh and in Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent.
The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan reported , that the interruption of power supply in Central Asia was caused by an emergency in Kazakhstan. At the same time, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan reported , that in connection with the power system of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan there was a power surge in the transit of electricity at 500 kV "north-east-south of Kazakhstan".
"As a result, there was an emergency separation of the North-East-South Kazakhstan transit with the repayment of a significant part of consumers in the southern zone of Kazakhstan. The size of the restriction is about 1500 megawatts. Currently, the System Operator KEGOC SA is taking measures to eliminate the emergency," the Ministry of Energy assured.
Strange things are happening right after the mass protest in Kazakhstan where many people were arrested. Perhaps a coincidence and perhaps not, but it is getting hot despite the winter.
